Monaco makes a commitment against deforestation
With the financial support of the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS), the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation launched in 2010 the “Wood Forever Pact”. This program aims to promote the use of wood sourced from sustainably managed forests in the yachting industry.
Promoting the use of certified wood is the best way of preventing deforestation, protecting biodiversity and combating poverty in the tropical rainforest regions. For the yachting sector, which strives for excellence and which is already involved in environmental efforts, this is also a way of ensuring that no wood from illegal logging is used.
The Wood Forever Pact lends technical support to yacht builders, designers and furniture manufacturers for the procurement and use of raw wood and wood-based products coming from sustainably managed forests. In addition, it provides wide media coverage with the periodical distribution of its newsletter, press releases and publications in the specialised press, enabling the spotlight to be turned on the achievements made by companies that have joined the initiative.
