Gandamia : water catchment in the mountains of North Mali

2007 - 2008

Catchment from our four permanent mountain springs primarily for the purpose of gravitational conveyance of drinking water (no pump or power) to supply 6276 people. The materials used are all manufactured in Mali. A cultivation basin, a water fountain and a washery, have been included for each spring in order to encourage the development of income-generating activities and employment (200 jobs created directly and indirectly).

The main goals are:

- gravitational water supply through catchment from four mountain springs

- to ensure permanent access to clean and uncontaminated drinking water for six villages using a process requiring no power and presenting no risk of mechanical breakdown

- to provide income-generating farming and stockfarming activities
