Ecosystem profile of the Mediterranean Basin

The Mediterranean region, which extends over 2 million square kilometres and 34 countries, is one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. It is a region extremely rich in biodiversity, but particularly endangered.

Due to this status, the CEPF has put forward a conservation strategy for the region in order to establish an ecosystem profile for the Mediterranean region. Thanks to this assessment, we will be able to accurately evaluate the biodiversity found in the Mediterranean and identify the phenomena that threaten it in order to implement relevant strategies targeting the most affected regions.
