WOOD FOREVER PACT

With the financial support of the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS), the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation launched in 2010 the “Wood Forever Pact”. This program aims to promote the use of wood sourced from sustainably managed forests in the yachting industry.

Promoting the use of certified wood is the best way of preventing deforestation, protecting biodiversity and combating poverty in the tropical rainforest regions. For the yachting sector, which strives for excellence and which is already involved in environmental efforts, this is also a way of ensuring that no wood from illegal logging is used.

The Wood Forever Pact lends technical support to yacht builders, designers and furniture manufacturers for the procurement and use of raw wood and wood-based products coming from sustainably managed forests. In addition, it provides wide media coverage with the periodical distribution of its newsletter, press releases and publications in the specialised press, enabling the spotlight to be turned on the achievements made by companies that have joined the initiative.

Viareggio Superyachts – VSY

VSY is the first European shipyard to sign the agreement and to analyse its supply chain in order to develop a sustainable timber procurement policy, and in so doing, to combat deforestation.
For VSY, sustainability is above all not a luxury but a responsibility –– and represents a long-term commitment - originally made when the shipyard first opened and which will see it as an increasingly front-line protagonist in this field also in the future.

Burger

The Foundation of Prince Albert II of Monaco has developed the Wood Forever program which aims to accompany the yacht builders towards the use of timber from sustainably-managed forests.
The Foundation is proud to welcome Burger Boat as the first official Wood Forever member. Burger signed a partnership agreement and committed to analyze their wood supply chain in order to be able to develop a sustainable wood purchasing policy and, doing so, fight deforestation.

Burger's membership has been officialised by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco today during his visit to the Monaco Yacht Show (see photo attached). His Foundation hopes that the other yacht builders will follow this good example in order to drive the yachting industry towards environmental excellence.
