Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation supports calls for the removal of Blue Fin tuna from the UK’s restaurants
Grande-Bretagne
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is committed to supporting the WWF’s campaign to protect the bluefin tuna. It is backing calls for the removal of the fish from all the UK’s restaurants.
All restaurants and retailers in the Principality of Monaco have removed the endangered Atlantic bluefin tuna from their shelves and menus until stocks of the fish have recovered and the fishery and trade are managed in a sustainable way.
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is also aiding the WWF’s bluefin tuna work in the Mediterranean through conservation activities, including a pioneering tuna tagging project, ‘On the Med tuna trail’. Data provided by the tags are improving scientific understanding of this migratory species, resulting in better management decisions.
H.E. Mr Bernard Fautrier, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, said: “The Atlantic bluefin tuna is an endangered species. Over-fishing is a real problem and the Foundation is working hard to support pioneering work to save species like the Blue Fin tuna. The UK’s restaurants should follow the example set by Monaco’s restaurants and shops and remove the tuna from their menus and shelves. It is a easy step to implement and could mean the survival of a species.”
