The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation launches the call for entries for its 2027 Environmental Photography Award

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, with the support of EFG Private Banking, is pleased to announce the opening of the call for entries for the 2027 edition of its Environmental Photography Award.

Established in 2021, the Environmental Photography Award is one of the flagship elements of the Foundation's Green Shift Initiative, dedicated to promoting inspiring ecological stories. Across five categories, the Award celebrates photographers aiming to advance conservation and raise awareness of environmental protection:

Ocean
Forests
Polar Regions
Changemakers
Humanity vs. Nature

Participation is free and open to both professional and amateur photographers

PRIZES

Winners of each category will receive a €1,000 cash prize. Among them, the 2027 Grand Prize winner will be selected by the jury and will be awarded an additional €5,000 cash prize , as well as a round trip to Monaco for the opening of the exhibition of the official selection. Alongside the five thematic categories, a Public Award and a Students’ Choice Award will also be presented, each accompanied by a €500 grant.

The Official Selection of 36 photographs and winners of the 2027 edition will be announced at the end of April 2027.

An exhibition of the shortlisted photographs will be presented in Monaco during the summer of 2027 before touring internationally. As in previous editions, a book featuring all selected images and accompanying texts will be published.

In line with the Foundation’s mission to raise awareness, Romain Ciarlet, Vice-Chairman and CEO, emphasises:“Through this award, we aim to give greater visibility to photographers who make tangible the fragile balances of the living world and the challenges facing our societies. By offering a platform to their narratives, we underline that photography can be a powerful tool for raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and mobilising action to protect our planet.”

2027 JURY COMPOSITION

The presidency of the jury for the 2027 edition will be entrusted to Jasper Doest, senior fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers and ambassador for WWF.

Jury President for the second consecutive year, Jasper Doest declared: “environmental photography competitions are one of the few platforms where the urgency of our relationship with the natural world is communicated through human experience. At a time when we are overwhelmed by information, a single photograph can do what a report cannot: make you feel before you think. Over the years, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has built this prize into something genuinely significant: a recognition that how we see the world shapes how we treat it, and that the stories we tell about nature are ultimately stories about ourselves. To chair this jury is not something I anticipated, and I am honoured to help bring forward the work that deserves to be seen.”

For this new edition, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is also pleased to renew its collaboration with Sergio Pitamitz, conservation and wildlife National Geographic contributing photographer, who will once again serve as Contest Chairman.

The reach of the Environmental Photography Award also continues through several travelling exhibitions, which bring its narratives to ever wider audiences. In 2026, the Award’s photographs travelled across Italy thanks to the work of the Foundation’s Italian branch, which organised a major national tour. An exhibition bringing together all the winners of the competition since its creation was presented at the Botanical Garden of Rome in the spring and in Castel Gandolfo this summer, and will be presented in Menaggio, on Lake Como, from 4 September, before continuing to new venues until the beginning of 2027. A second exhibition will also open on 9 September in Anacapri on the theme of the Ocean, with a selection of photographs from previous editions.

The Foundation’s Spanish branch enabled the Environmental Photography Award 2026 exhibition to be hosted from 20 August to 25 September in the prestigious Parc del Retiro, with a tour in the north of the country under consideration.
