Germany
After two challenging years due to Covid-related restrictions, the German branch of the
Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, led by its President, Prof. Dr Alexandre Liegl, was able
to resume activity. This included the renewal and extension of its cooperation contract with
the Deutsche Meeresstiftung (German Ocean Foundation) and Boot Düsseldorf boat show,
resulting in the co-funding of the Ocean Tribute Award, as well as the renewal of its partnership
with the Michael Otto Environmental Foundation (F20 initiative).
Thanks to a generous donation, the German branch was able to co-fund some of the Prince
Albert II of Monaco Foundation’s selected projects, including Landestini’s ‘Champions of
sustainable food and biodiversity’ initiative, ‘Sustainable Tuna Fisheries: Solomon Islands’, a project
run by The Nature Conservancy, ‘Sustainable Seas’, a Marine Megafauna Foundation programme
in Mozambique, and the project ‘Improve the security of access to water and environment
management for Turkana North’, led by Caritas Lodwar (Diocese of Lodwar) in Kenya.
On 2 December 2022, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco received the German Sustainability
Award in recognition of his commitment and exceptional contribution to the environmental
cause. He was awarded the prize at a gala reception in the Maritime Hotel in Düsseldorf,
in the presence of the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz
