Press release
On Thursday 28 May 2026, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation inaugurated, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, the 2026 Environmental Photography Award exhibition on the Promenade du Larvotto in Monaco.
Open to the public until 30 July 2026, the exhibition brings together the thirty-six photographs selected for this new edition of the Award, which highlights the power of images to raise awareness of major environmental issues and encourage commitment to protecting the planet.
A highlight of the sequence was the presentation by the Sovereign Prince of diplomas to the attending winning photographers : Britta Jaschinski, Environmental Photographer 2026 and winner of the “Changemakers” category for her image Handprint on Sea Turtle, and Fernando Faciole, winner of the “Humanity versus Nature” category for his image Born for the Ocean, Fated to the Flames.
The two laureates had the opportunity to present their work to the Prince, alongside three other photographers from the 2026 selection: Luca Eberle, runner-up in the “Forests” category with Predator’s Gaze; Lucas Bustamante, runner-up in the “Polar Regions” category with Penguin Feast and honourable mention in the “Forests” category with An Explosion of Colour; and Estebane Rezkallah, honourable mention in the “Polar Regions” category with The Early Bear.
Among the guests were Sergio Pitamitz, Chairman of the competition, conservation and wildlife photographer and National Geographic contributor, as well as several members of the 2026 jury – Sharon Guynup, journalist, author, photographer and National Geographic Explorer (United States); Florian Ledoux, filmmaker and photographer specialising in the Arctic (France); Steve Winter, photojournalist specialising in big cats and documentary filmmaker (United States); and Christian Ziegler, photojournalist and documentary filmmaker specialising in science and natural history (Germany) – who accompanied the Sovereign Prince during his visit.
This edition takes on particular significance as part of the celebrations marking the twentieth anniversary of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. For the occasion, several panels have been incorporated into the exhibition route to retrace the Foundation’s work over the past two decades in support of environmental protection, biodiversity and planetary health.
Alongside the Larvotto exhibition, SNCF Hubs & Connexions is presenting four photographs from the 2026 edition at Monaco train station until September, offering travellers a prelude to the exhibition and a first immersion into the world of the Environmental Photography Award.
As one of the three pillars of the Foundation’s Green Shift Initiative, dedicated to promoting inspiring ecological narratives, the Environmental Photography Award highlights the power of images to raise awareness and mobilise action. To enhance the visitor experience, QR codes provide access to explanatory texts for each photograph, while a children’s activity booklet has been specially designed to guide families through the exhibition.
Organised with the support of UISEK, the Environmental Photography Award exhibition will be open to the public until 30 July 2026 on the Promenade du Larvotto, before beginning its international tour.
“Through this new edition of the Environmental Photography Award, we wish to reaffirm how powerful images can be as a lever for awareness and action. The photographs presented at Larvotto bear witness both to the fragile beauty of the living world and to the urgency of the challenges to which we must collectively respond. In this anniversary year for the Foundation, this exhibition resonates particularly strongly with our mission: to inspire, to pass on knowledge and to mobilise in favour of a more sustainable future,” said Romain Ciarlet, Vice-Chairman and CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
