The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation launches the call for entries for its 2026 Environmental Photography Award

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, in partnership with SEK International University, is pleased to announce the opening of the call for entries for the 2026 edition of its Environmental Photography Award.

Established in 2021, the Environmental Photography Award is one of the flagship elements of the Foundation's Green Shift Initiative, dedicated to promoting inspiring ecological stories. Across five categories, the Award celebrates photographers aiming to advance conservation and raise awareness of environmental protection:

·         Ocean

·         Forests

·         Polar Regions

·         Changemakers

·         Humanity vs. Nature

SUBMISSIONS

·         Registration opens: Tuesday, 2 September 2025

·         Registration closes: Sunday, 2 November 2025

·         Submit online: ww.fpa2photoaward.org

Participation is free and open to both professional and amateur photographers.

PRIZES

Winners of each category will receive a €1,000 cash prize. Among them, the 2026 Grand Prize winner will be selected by the jury and will be awarded an additional €5,000 cash prize and a round trip to Monaco to receive this special accolade.

Alongside the five thematic categories, a Public Award and a Students’ Choice Award will also be presented, each accompanied by a €500 grant. The Public Award winner will additionally be offered the opportunity to visit SEK International University’s research station in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador.

The Official Selection of 36 photographs and winners of the 2026 edition will be announced mid-April 2026
.

An exhibition of the shortlisted photographs will be presented in Monaco during the summer of 2026 before touring internationally. As in previous editions, a book featuring all selected images and accompanying texts will be published by Skira Paris.

In line with the Foundation’s mission to raise awareness, Vice-Chairman and CEO Olivier Wenden emphasises: "Photographers have a unique ability to translate the urgency of today’s environmental challenges into a universal language that touches hearts and inspires action. With this Award, we aim to amplify their voices and ensure their stories resonate far beyond the conservation community."

2026 JURY COMPOSITION

The presidency of the jury for the 2026 edition will be entrusted to Jasper Doest, senior fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers and ambassador for WWF. A Dutch photographer with a background in ecology, Doest uses his work to highlight the complex relationship between humanity and nature and the urgent need for sustainable living. A regular contributor to National Geographic, his honours include four World Press Photo Awards, the National Geographic Photographer’s Photographer Award, and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation’s 2023 Environmental Photography Award Grand Prize.

·         Angel Fitor (Spain) - Natural history photographer and photojournalist specialising in marine & freshwater science

·         Tom Gilks (United Kingdom) - Managing Director and Head of Content at Nature Picture Library

·         Sharon Guynup (USA) - Journalist, author, photographer and National Geographic Explorer

·         Florian Ledoux (France) - Cinematographer and photographer specialising in the Arctic region

·         Steve Winter (USA) - Photojournalist specialising in big cats and documentary filmmaker

·         Christian Ziegler (Germany) - Photojournalist and filmmaker specialising in natural history and scientific topics

For this new edition, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is also pleased to renew its collaboration with Sergio Pitamitz, acclaimed conservation and wildlife photographer, National Geographic contributor, and photographer for National Geographic Expeditions, who will once again serve as Contest Chairman.
