On Sunday 5 October, for the 30th edition of the European Heritage Days themed “Architectural Heritage”, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, in collaboration with the Heritage Institute of Monaco, is offering the public guided tours of the Villa Girasole with Anne-Claire Guellec, an art history expert.
Home to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the International Commission for the Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean Sea (CIESM), Villa Girasole was built in 1889 and features remarkable Belle Époque architecture.
The two tours (currently fully booked) are scheduled at 10.30 a.m. and 3 p.m., to discover all the secrets of this building, from the unique features of its façade to its interior decorations (stained glass windows, wood panelling, murals and exceptional leather hangings).
In addition to these historical tours, the Foundation wanted to examine architecture in times of global crisis and, thus, highlight the work of BESIGN The Sustainable Design School. Based in Cagnes-sur-Mer, it trains and assists its students in a design approach that combines positive impact, responsibility and innovation.
Models created by Master’s students as part of their research project on sustainable innovation will be on display: a floating port concept, urban furniture designed to meet climate challenges, an innovative well system – all solutions imagined by the young designers, who will be present between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to talk to the public and explain their approach.
