Exploring joyful and desirable ways to achieve the green transition together
Ever since it was launched in 2023, the Green Shift Festival has been a major awareness-raising event for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. Friendly and free to all to attend, it promotes positive narratives to encourage the public to embrace a united and joyful green transition.
Its third edition took place on 4, 5, and 6 June in the Place Anne-Marie Campora on the Promenade du Larvotto. Each day of the festival was organised around a specific theme and ended with a thought-provoking evening event:
- Welcome to 2050: This event combining storytelling, future speculation and performance invited the audience to participate by envisaging a future in which a successful green transition has already taken place. Hosted by Yasmina Auburtin, Editorial Coordinator at So good, it brought together Hélène Binet, Communications and Editorial Director at makesense, and Mathieu Baudin, Director of the Institute of Desirable Futures.
- At the Heart of the Living World: The aim of this immersive event was to restore the bonds that unite people and living things. Revolving around a performance entitled The Sperm Whale is No Different to the Bat, the talk was moderated by Magali Payen, Founder of the ‘On est prêt’ citizen movement and President of Imagine 2050, and led by eco-psychology expert Marianne Leenart, oceanographer François Sarano and biologist Laurent Tillon.
- Music and Ecology: Hosted by Alfonso Ciulla, Artistic Director at Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, this final evening celebrated music as a vehicle for raising awareness and mobilising support for the planet, bringing together in conversation Magali Payen, Arthur Lecercle, Founder of Music for Planet, singer–songwriter Tom Frager and music composer Hélène Vogelsinger.
Each day began with a well-being session given by the Kate Powers Foundation: mindful breathing, qi gong and sound therapy. Early evening “environmentally conscious happy hours”, hosted by Sébastien Uscher, featured presentations about local ecological initiatives, entertainment and performances for the public, and invited them to express themselves in a large-format interactive artwork designed in association with spatial and set design agency Bureau Walter and illustrator Chloë Monti. Sustainable food was served in partnership with Monaco food truck Valentin, and music was provided courtesy of DJ Baloo.
Another highlight of the three-day festival, organised in liaison with the Monaco Department of Cultural Affairs, was a professional workshop that brought together the Principality’s leading cultural institutions for the third year in a row with the aim of driving the green transition in the sector. In addition, a presentation about jobs of the future was given to second-year students at the Lycée François d’Assise-Nicolas Barré with the organisation makesense.
The 2025 edition of the Green Shift Festival was organised by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation with the support of Sogeda and MTB Recycling, and in partnership with its institutional, cultural and media partners: the Department of Cultural Affairs, Monaco City Hall, Les Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco, Monaco Multimedia Library, Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, SMEG, Kate Powers Foundation, Carmignac Foundation, Imagine 2050, Actes Sud, Time for the Ocean, Music for Planet, Mouvement Bleu, Écologie 360 and Les Échos.
