On 19 and 20 June, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation will stand alongside the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation for the next edition of “The Crossing: Together for the Pelagos Crossing”. Imagined and organized by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation as a true athletic challenge, the event shines a light on an essential and emblematic marine area in the Mediterranean: the Pelagos Sanctuary.

A unique crossing at the crossroads of sport and philanthropy

Connecting Italy to Monaco by water bike, the crossing offers a powerful platform to raise public awareness of the fragility of an exceptional marine ecosystem. By bringing together sport, philanthropy and environmental responsibility, this initiative carries three key messages:

  • Drowning prevention,
  • Swimming education,
  • Marine conservation in the Mediterranean.

The commitment of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation

For the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, this event reflects a long-standing commitment to protecting the marine environment – a commitment embodied in particular through the Pelagos Initiative, launched in 2021 alongside major partners including WWF, IUCN and MedPAN.

Through the Pelagos Initiative, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation provides concrete support on several levels:

  • Funding scientific projects to improve knowledge of the Sanctuary,
  • Supporting field-based initiatives and strengthening cooperation among conservation stakeholders,
  • Developing educational and awareness-raising campaigns to encourage more effective protection of this marine protected area.

Taking place at the heart of this emblematic marine territory, The Crossing shows how sports can become a driver of change. More than an athletic achievement, this crossing stands as a call for collective action to protect a shared natural heritage.
