Monaco

Press release

It will be followed by the Blue Economy and Finance Forum on 28–29 May 2026 at the Grimaldi Forum.

For more than 15 years, the Monaco Blue Initiative (MBI), coorganised by the Oceanographic Institute and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, has been a unique forum for strategic discussions on the governance and protection of the Ocean. This year’s MBI will serve as a work session designed to fuel reflection, determine priorities, and inform the dialogue in the lead-up to the 2026 Blue Economy and Finance Forum (BEFF).

The Monaco Blue Initiative is a high-level political event that will this year bring together around 100 participants to encourage strategic exchanges between decisionmakers, scientists and key figures in marine governance during a day alternating between plenary sessions and networking opportunities.

Today an international point of reference, since 2010 the MBI has been a platform for dialogue and the co-construction of projects, involving major figures working on topics related to the Ocean – scientists, policymakers, international organisations, NGOs and business leaders. The aim is to address, in a concrete, operational, forward-looking way, the current and future global challenges of the management and protection of the Ocean.

The Oceanographic Institute and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation intend to capitalise on these two complementary events, leveraging the strategic expertise of the MBI and the financial capacity of the BEFF to advance to the next stage: amplifying collective impact, building bridges between scientific knowledge, policymaking and financial initiatives, and accelerating the implementation of concrete solutions to protect the Ocean.
