An exceptional programme for the 2011 Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation’s Award Ceremony

Monaco, 26th September 2011 – On Friday 7th October 2011, starting at 6.30 p.m., the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is hosting its fourth award ceremony.

 

Award ceremony and Dinner

Since 2008, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation Awards have been presented to individuals who have made an exceptional commitment towards saving our planet.

Let us recall the message addressed by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco at the first edition of the event:“I wanted to create these Awards to lend my support to the exceptional women and men who have made a personal commitment to save our planet.”

 

 

H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince will therefore honour several international key figures for their exemplary action in favour of the environment and the protection of the planet, in each of the Foundation’s three priority fields of activity:climate change, the preservation of biodiversity, access to water and the fight against desertification.After Alain Hubert, Dr Jane Goodall and Sunita Narain in 2008, Professor Edward Osborne Wilson, Ms Marina Silva and Mr Pan Yue in 2009, Professor James Lovelock, Dr Peter Hamilton Raven and Professor Malin Falkenmark in 2010, the 2011 winners will be presented with a trophy created specifically for the occasion.

The evening will conclude with a dinner during which the Foundation will pay tribute to the work of young researchers from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

 

Exclusive screening of Disneynature’s film “African Cats”

The 2011 Award Ceremony will be preceded by an exclusive screening of the film “African Cats” to which 1000 guests are invited.

 

In this film,  - a film label dedicated to producing environmental movies - has chosen to tell the moving and captivating story of the kings of the African savannah, for whom nothing can ever be taken for granted.A fascinating journey into the heart of life in the wild, never before captured on the silver screen, the film is to be released in French cinemas on 1st February 2012.

 

Press Conference

These events will be preceded by a Press Conference in the Grimaldi Forum at 6 p.m. on 7th October, in the presence of H.E.Mr Bernard Fautrier, Vice President of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the three 2011 winners, representatives of Disneynature and two representatives of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

 

11th Board of Directors’ Meeting

On the same day, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince will preside over the 11th meeting of his Foundation’s newly constituted Board of Directors, further to a Sovereign Decision on 14th September following the expiry of the first four-year mandate.

This meeting will enable the Board to examine the state of progress of projects supported by the Foundation, to approve the 2012 estimated budget and to examine new projects to be given support.


The Presidents of the Foundation’s foreign branches, of which there are now eight, will also be taking part in this meeting.There will also be an update concerning the development of these branches.
