Ardingly College’s solar car second in its class at the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2019 in Australia

Monaco

Under the direction of Dr. Andrew Spiers, the Ardingly College team participated in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge held in Australia from October 13 to 20. Their solar car, sponsored by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, took the start of the race in the "Adventure" category, ready to tackle the 3000 km separating Darwin from Adelaide.

The Ardingly Solar Car has succeeded in the challenge of covering, in extreme conditions, 1300 kilometers solely with solar energy, making the remaining kilometres with electric energy. Sandstorms and temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius did not defeat the team that finished second in the race in its category. A great victory that crowns 4 years of involvement and work by Ardingly College students in this ambitious technological project, whose ambitions are manifold: to confront students with the world of industry and research, develop their skills, encourage the design of innovative products adapted to the market and, finally, be a bridge between their studies and their future careers.
