BeMed launches a call for projects to reduce plastic pollution in the Mediterranean islands

Created in 2015 by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the MAVA Foundation, the Surfrider Europe Foundation, the Tara Ocean Foundation and the IUCN, the Beyond Plastic Med (BeMed) association aims to combat plastic pollution in the Mediterranean Sea.
Since 2017, BeMed has created a regional dynamic to fight plastic pollution at source, by supporting small local projects. By strengthening the capacities of actors in the field and facilitating the experience sharing, BeMed allows the replication of good practices in the Mediterranean basin.
Today, BeMed wishes to go further by strengthening its impact in the Mediterranean islands. Real tourist hotspots, islands are strongly impacted by plastic pollution. Their size, however, allows us to hope for a more rapid impact of actions to reduce plastic pollution on their territory.
This is why BeMed is launching a call for projects to strengthen efforts to reduce plastic pollution on Mediterranean islands. In order to aim at a good complementarity with its Call for Micro-Initiatives launched each year in October, the projects targeted by this call will be of a larger dimension and will last two years.

The call for projects in brief:
Eligible actors: The call for projects concerns all types of public or private stakeholders whose legal status allows them to receive grants.
Type of targeted actions: The call only concerns actions that are part of a project already under way, that complement a completed project, or that are the replication of actions that have proven to be effective.
Eligible countries: The call concerns the islands of all countries around the Mediterranean.
BeMed's contribution for each project: up to a maximum of 100,000 euros.
Project start date: from October 2020.
Duration of the project: maximum 24 months (end of the project by 30 September 2022 at the latest).
The call is open until Sunday 21 June 2020.
