The EGTC « Parco europeo/parc européen Marittime Mercantour » applies, with 4 other Italian partners, for the inscription to UNESCO World Heritage Site. Such a label awards the highest international recognition to a territory exceptional value. Furthermore, it guarantees a sustainable management in the humanity interest, under UNESCO’s auspices.

As a corollary to this acknowledgment and to the insurance of the site’s sustainable management, the image and reputation brought by this classification are significant assets for the territory attractiveness.

The perimeter of the proposed site to the ranking includes the territories of the Parc National du Mercantour, Parco Alpi Marittime, Parco del Marguareis, Parco Alpi Liguri, Natura 2000 from Imperia’s Province sites and the regional protected area “Giardini botanici Villa Harbury” (which contains a sea portion). Hence, 1 French partner and 5 Italians.

The name chosen to define the project and to be presented through UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee is: Marittime Mercantour “Les Alpes de la Mediterranée”.
