The aim of the project is to create community areas lit up by LED and photovoltaic technology in order to develop sports, leisure and educational activities for children and adults. Philips would like to install over 100 community light centres in Africa.
The United Nations programme "Sustainable Energy for All" supports the project. Support from the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has enabled two schools to be equipped.
