“A sea between lands” - as its name implies, the Mediterranean is like a huge lake, a melting pot of cultures and the cradle of western civilisation.

It is a strategic location, thanks to its extremely jagged coastline and its favourable climate explain both its importance in the history of humankind. Its fauna and flora are also exceptional.

This sea represents less than 1% of the global ocean surface, yet it contains 10% of all living marine species. However, this sea is fragile, and the damage inflicted upon it is multifold (pollution, overfishing, concreting of the coastline, oil dumping, etc.). Its biodiversity is therefore under threat.
