The project involves the exploration of the distant reefs of the Phoenix Islands protected area (PIPA), which provides an unprecedented opportunity to analyse climate change and its effects on the biodiversity of the coral reefs in the absence of local human influence.

The expedition organised in June 2012 marks the beginning of 10 years of research. The project consists of analysing samples and data collected during the expedition, in order to gain a better understanding of coral bleaching.

These results are then to be publicised.
