This project aims to achieve an overarching goal of improving WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) security for 150,000 climate vulnerable community members in the south west coastal area of Bangladesh through provision of greater access to clean water, improved sanitation and hygiene practices through effective, appropriate and scalable climate resilient WASH technologies in communities, schools and health care centers.

Key Challenges:

Implementation cost is high in hard-to-reach areas.
Good quality staff is difficult to be retained in these areas.
Chances of countering natural disasters is high.
Electricity is not fully available yet, which is required for smooth operation of the water technologies.

Objectives

Woman led water entrepreneurship model established which will ensure safe water supply at affordable price.
Access to safe and affordable drinking water increased for vulnerable and marginalized people through installing/ renovating climate resilient water technology.
Access to improved sanitation increased for vulnerable and marginalized people through mobilization and provision of sanitation services.
Knowledge and practices on personal hygiene during critical times among students, community people and health workers increased.

Results

Addressing climate resilient water technologies like rainwater harvesting, pond sand filter and reverse osmosis.
Establishing women led water entrepreneurship by providing training to women on business basics and operation and management of the reverse osmosis plant.
Improving sanitation facilities by ensuring inclusive sanitation for all in the educational institutes and healthcare centres.
Promoting good hygiene behaviour and practice of personal hygiene among the stakeholders that includes adolescent groups, mothers, community workers etc.
