Sandalwood trees are on the verge of extinction in Timor-Leste. The “kingdom” of Oecussi was one of the centers of power for the region.

The objective of this park program is to instill among the people pride and recognition of the important historical role their homeland has played and to take a leading role in stimulating environmentally-friendy economic development in the district. The Park will support the revival of sandalwood, foster the development of a forestry-based industry centered on sandalwood and other high-value tree species, and it will provide a place where Oecussi residents and tourists from both Timor-Leste and West Timor can enjoy a pleasant park environment.
